Testimonials for ABA
Our Testimonial section lists some of the views and opinions of parents and teachers who have seen the benefits of PEAT and ABA.
Paul Cranny
"In school I am the principal, a class teacher and also the special needs coordinator. So in all three roles I would have a knowledge of Autism, both in preparing IEPs (Individual education programmes) for children with special needs, on the Autism spectrum or with asperger's syndrome.
As class teacher I would be delivering ABA to those children and as principal I tend to be involved with the parents of those children quite actively and also with outside professionals.
The children on the spectrum tend to have social difficulties. We would use ABA in school to diminish those negative behaviours and encourage positives."
Marie and Jude
"Through PEAT I've met quite a lot of lovely people in the same boat as myself. If things weren't working for me I would ask some of the parents and they would give me ideas on what to do. Plus I would have given parents ideas as well.
Since getting the ABA programme set up for Jude he has actually learned to read, write, spell, maths and life skills. He can cook for himself, he can have a bath and wash his hair and he is totally toilet trained. Jude has learned so much from ABA and I'm proud of him - he's the best."
Helen and Mikey
"Well after you've fought for a diagnosis of Autism you expect that it will be a pathway to interventions... but I felt there was very little offered for Mikey. I felt that Mikey really needed to be motivated to learn because he was just happy living in his own wee bubble so I looked into other interventions.
The thing I liked about Applied Behaviour Analysis was that it broke down skills into small steps and it motivated the child to learn by using reinforcers. ABA is the only scientifically validated approach for children with Autism, so as a parent I felt that that was the way I had to go."
Bridget and Judy
"When Judy was diagnosed she was three and a half and we were told she had Autism. It was very much up to us to go and look for help and we researched as much as we could about Autism. It was just by chance that we came across a leaflet for the PEAT group. We went to one of the monthly meetings and it was really great to see and meet other people who were in the same situation as us. What gave us some hope was that we met other families who had been through what we were going through and things were looking better for their children because they'd started on an ABA programme."
